Do You Need Vaccine Boosters Again? Doctors Weigh In Amid Rising Covid Cases

As Covid-19 cases see a slight uptick in India, doctors on the ground report that the majority of infections are mild and rarely require hospitalisation. They advise the public to remain calm, but alert, and to continue following basic COVID-appropriate behaviour—especially those showing symptoms or who are part of high-risk groups.

Key Points:
  • Most COVID-19 cases reported in OPDs involve mild symptoms
  • Booster or precautionary doses are not currently necessary, according to doctors
  • Basic hand hygiene and preventive measures are strongly recommended
As of May 26, India reported 1,010 active COVID-19 infections. While this is a relatively low number compared to previous waves, doctors emphasize the importance of simple precautions such as wearing masks in crowded places, washing hands frequently, and staying home if symptomatic.

The current increase is primarily seen in states like Kerala, Maharashtra, and Delhi.
  • Kerala has recorded 335 new infections over the past week, with an active caseload of 430—the highest in the country.
  • Maharashtra currently has 210 active cases, followed by Delhi with 104, as per data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Doctors reiterate that there’s no need for panic, but continued vigilance is key.
