When is an MRI needed?

This matters because some people have herniated discs without experiencing any symptoms at all. An abnormality on an MRI does not automatically mean it is the source of your pain.
Can a Slipped Disc Get Better Without Surgery?
In many cases, yes.
Most people with a herniated disc improve with non-surgical treatment. Depending on the symptoms, treatment may include medicines, physical therapy and changes in activities that aggravate the pain.
Your doctor may recommend exercises that improve movement and strengthen the muscles supporting your spine.
The important point is that having a slipped disc does not automatically mean you need surgery.
