Overview
Congenital Heart Defects (CHDs) are the most prevalent birth defects. CHDs can affect a baby's heart's shape and function. They may have an impact on how blood moves from the heart to the rest of the body. CHDs can range from moderate like a little hole in the heart, to severe such as missing or poorly formed parts of the heart.
While it might not be necessary to treat minor defects, major ones might need heart devices, surgery, catheter treatments, or blood pressure-lowering drugs. In severe circumstances, a heart transplant may be necessary.
