Overview
Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) is the name given to a large group of conditions that affect the tissue around the air sacs in the lungs. These tiny air sacs allow oxygen to move into the blood. When the surrounding tissue becomes inflamed or scarred, it grows thicker and stiffer. The lungs then cannot expand easily, and less oxygen may reach the blood.
Some forms of ILD mainly cause inflammation, while others cause permanent scarring called pulmonary fibrosis. A condition involving this scarring may also be described as fibrotic lung disease. Patients may notice a dry cough, tiredness or shortness of breath during everyday activities.

Diagnosis of Interstitial Lung Disease
