When is it not normal to have a Headache?

Headaches are common and we might have one due to stress, dehydration or even menstruation. But headaches can also happen because of prolonged medical condition a like migraine.

But do you know what might seem like a normal headache, could also be a symptom of an undiagnosed brain tumour?

So, it’s imperative to keep a check on frequent or recurring headaches as the might require a specialist’s attention. In this blog we are going to discuss some signs that occur along with headache, which require immediate attention from medical experts.

1. Change in Speech Or Vision

Headache which is accompanied with other symptoms is not a normal one . For example, if you have changes in vision, trouble in speech or difficulty in walking or one side of your body seems weak, then it could be some serious condition like a migraine or even a stroke.

Stroke occurs when blood supply to the brain is severely reduced or completely cut-off resulting into cell-death[when cells loses their function and die] . Although sometimes migraines with numbness or weakness, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding speech are confused with stroke. Remember that just before the stroke occurs, it takes away your sensations and leads to loss of vision or lack of feeling.

Migraines and headaches during a stroke are different. A sudden headache is less likely to be a migraine and most possibly a stroke. Other than a stroke, it may also be a sign of a much more serious condition like a Brain Tumour, which often go undiagnosed until the symptoms become very evident. But it’s hard to tell and only a neuro specialist; either a neurologist or neurosurgeon can best diagnose the same. At our set-up, we have renowned brain surgeons in Faridabad; who can also help with the diagnosis & treatment of brain tumours or other such severe neuro conditions.

2. Change in Behaviour

If you are getting frequent headaches and have behavioural changes, do not ignore them and seek medical help. Headaches can be early signs of a brain tumour.

Although all brain tumours are not cancerous, but benign (non-cancerous) tumours too need treatment. cancer cells, they start to press the blood vessels in the head, causing headaches. The growing cancerous cells can even press the brain itself, resulting in neurological changes. These changes may affect your behaviour and you may experience issues with memory, concentration, reading and writing, and/or emotional disbalance.

If you notice such changes along with frequent severe headaches, get diagnosed and seek advice by experts who can guide you for your brain tumour treatment in Faridabad.

3. Sudden and Severe Headache

Sudden headaches may occur due to a condition called brain aneurysm. Brain aneurysm or ballooning is a condition that occurs when weak blood vessels in the brain start expanding or growing out. They don’t really show any early symptoms but in a severe stage you might experience a headache. But a ruptured aneurysm means the ballooned blood vessel is leaking blood around the brain causing a severe and sudden headache. This may also come along with nausea, vomiting, weakness or dizziness.

4. Stiff Neck Or High Fever

Usually, headache and fever are treated as signs of flu. But if you are also having a stiff neck, nausea, vomiting or seizures along with a headache, then it could be a sign of meningitis.

Meningitis can be a bacterial or viral infection that affects the membranes covering the brain and spine. Swelling in these membranes causes headache and stiff neck. Although meningitis is difficult to diagnose, experts in our team of brain surgeons in Faridabad are adept at diagnosing and treating this condition.

Frequently occurring severe headaches that lead to an all-day bed-ridden lifestyle is not normal. You must see a specialist as it can be an early sign of various brain conditions.
