Is the procedure to look in to the body cavities with the help of scopes. The center is equipped with upper
gastrointestinal, side viewing and lower gastrointestinal scopes.
These studies are used for different diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
UPPER GI- used to look in to esophagus, stomach and duodenum and can help to identify different infections, gastric erosion, gastric oesophageal varices or tumors of these parts.
Colonoscopy - is examination of lower gastrointestinal tract by an endoscope visualising sigmoid, descending, transverse and ascending colon, and all parts of the large intestine. It can help diagnose different ailments afflicting the large intestine like polyps, tumors or inflammatory bowel disease.
Side viewing scope - can help diagnose disorders of pancreas, pancreatic duct, and biliary ducts including common bile duct.
Science has moved forward and today we can address large issues through smaller openings and through hi-tech devices. Endoscopy procedures are an example of such techno-medical feasts. There are quite a number of uses of therapeutic endoscopy which can be seen as
Polypectomy, colonic structure dilation, injection tamponade for bleeding leisons, colonic stenting for decompression in case of colonic volvulus are few examples of useful endoscopic procedures through lower GI scopes.
ERCP is a technique to diagnose and treat problems in the liver, gallbladder ,bile ducts ,and pancreas by seeing inside the stomach and duodenum. ERCP is used primarily to diagnose and treat conditions of the bile ducts ,including CBD stone, inflammatory scars, leaks (from trauma and surgery) and cancer. ERCP can be performed for diagnostic and therapeutic reasons. Although the development of safer and relatively non-invasive investigations such as magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) and endoscopic ultrasound has meant that ERCP is now rarely performed without therapeutic intent.
